Canada’s National Student Photography Challenge
Edge is proud to partner with EcoSchools Canada and the Roberta Bondar Foundation to support the Bondar Challenge - a national nature photography contest for students aged 6-18. Together, we’re empowering young people to step outside, slow down, and look at the world around them with curiosity, creativity, and purpose.
This challenge invites students to explore their local environments and capture meaningful moments in nature, blending art and science through the power of photography.
What Is the Bondar Challenge?
The Bondar Challenge encourages students to submit an original photograph that highlights nature, ecosystems, or environmental processes. Entries are grouped by age, and each submission includes a short artist’s statement explaining both the creative choices behind the image and the scientific or ecological story it tells.
It’s more than a photo contest - it’s an opportunity for students to observe closely, think critically, and communicate ideas through visual storytelling. .
Why This Challenge Matters
Through the Bondar Challenge, students are encouraged to:
Develop a lifelong appreciation for photography, nature, and environmental stewardship
Build creative, scientific, and observational skills through hands-on learning
Express ideas, emotions, and discoveries through meaningful visual work
At Edge, we believe learning happens best when students are engaged, inspired, and connected to the world around them - and this partnership brings that belief to life.
